Today my sister is rather unhappy, something bad happened to her at university again.
It appears that during her team presentation on their project proposal for a compulsory computing related module that all students regardless of course need to take. Some particular team that is very skilled in computing stuffs, for some reasons best known to themselves, decide to cause my sister’s team troubles as they keep asking questions, giving comments about how bad they feel the proposal is & such. In the end, it turns into some huge spirited discussions with my sister worrying a lot as her whole team only had very basic computing knowledge like surfing The Internet for example. Luckily, as the spirited discussions heats up, the attacking team kind of overstepped their expertise area & went into some advanced mathematical stuffs & my sister’s team, having 2 extremely talented project mates in mathematics, took the opportunity to counter back & end up causing huge shame to them. The professor stopped the presentation around that time.
I think my sister has been rather unlucky in her past 1-2 years of university, just last year alone, she had two incidents that severely affected her grades. One of them caused by some weird project mate, who virtually never participate in the project at all & during the final presentation, finally appeared & shouted vulgarities & so on to anybody who attempted to ask questions. Thus ruining the whole team efforts, especially when grades were given on a team basis. It does puzzle me on why there were such students who do not even mind his own grades being affected at all as long as he could sabotage somebody. For the second incident, some project mates plagiarised & the whole team is penalised heavily. My sister & some of her project mates who did not plagiarise did perform some checks on their own but did not manage to find anything suspicious. They tried to explain it to the committee but it seems to be ignored unfortunately. Who simply just replied with they should have checked their fellow project mates works for plagiarism, which they did :(. There were just too many resources available in the world. Sigh…
Judging from what my sister’s experienced, it seems to me that a university is not such a nice place to be in but I guess that not my worry since I do not think I could even make it to university at all. =)
